Elizabeth Cecelia Douglas Clephane

Elizabeth Cecelia Douglas Clephane (June 18, 1830 – February 19, 1869) was a Scottish songwriter and the author of the hymns “Beneath the Cross of Jesus” and “The Ninety and Nine”.

Clephane was born in Edinburgh, Scotland and died at Bridgend House, near Melrose, Roxburghshire.


Frederick Charles Maker


Frederick Charles Maker was born on August 6, 1844 in Bristol, England to Charles and Mary Maker. His father was a leather cutter.

In 1861, Frederick was 16 and an articled professor of music, meaning he was under a contractual obligation to fulfill the training and requirements to become a Professor.  He composed the music for several hymns, and was a well-known Irish musician and composer. Some of them are:

Dear Lord and Father of Mankind,” music
O Sacred Head, Now Wounded,” music

Frederick Maker died on Jan. 1, 1927.
